Red or blue spider veins on the face may appear in many people due to a variety of reasons. The main ones are many sunbathing, frostbite of the skin and, especially, a genetic predisposition. Provoking moments can be excessive use of coffee, smoking, taking hormonal drugs, emotional stress. Alcohol also plays a negative role in this process, although the «red nose» may be found with a person, who is not drinking alcohol.

Young women may get spider veins on the legs after childbirth, and older people as a result of impaired patency of veins. Currently there are dermatological lasers which can remove the damaged vessels. The previous method of electrocoagulation has been fraught with high risk of scarring on the skin. There were no effective ways of «wine stains» treatment in the pre-laser epoch. The LaserOne Clinic conducts vascular disease removal with neodymium laser SYNCHRO REPLA:Y (DEKA, Italy).

The method of blood vessel laser removal is called selective photothermolysis. It is designed specifically for the removal of small subcutaneous capillaries and vascular tumors (hemangiomas). The laser beam penetrates into subcutaneous capillaries without damaging the skin. All the energy of light is accumulated in the red blood pigment. The vessel gets heated, glued and disappears. The laser impulse selectively heats the blood vessel and coagulates it, which gives a unique opportunity to remove diseased blood vessels without damaging the skin. The procedure is usually easily tolerated — laser pulse feels like a weak stab with a thin needle, skin irritation is insignificant. Surface vessels and vessels with a small diameter disappear almost immediately after the first procedure, and for vessels located deeper and the ones having larger diameter several procedures are required. Due to this technique it is possible to remove hemangiomas, spider veins on the legs and capillaries on the face.

It should be noted that this method is widely used throughout the world for the last 20 years. In the US, for example, more than 1 million people undergo the vessel removing procedure each year. The method was approved and received permission to use by the USA FDA organization (Food and Drug Association). Blood vessel laser removal is rightly considered as the «gold standard» in the world.

Many patients, of course, are concerned about the question: «Can the dilated blood vessels appear again?» The answer is: «Yes, they can, if one has a genetic predisposition or if external predisposing factors are not eliminated.» Many years of our clinical experience show that typically it takes several years before the new vessels appear. In this case, they are very easy to remove through repeated sessions of laser therapy. Previously removed vessels and «wine stains» practically do not appear again.
