Atheroma is a benign tumor of sebaceous gland, which is caused by blockage of excretory duct and accumulation of sebum content in it. It may appear on any part of the body where sebaceous glands are located; most often on the scalp, neck and back.

As a rule, it appears in people with oily skin suffering from excessive sweating. Atheroma often appears in women who overuse decorative cosmetics. Formation tends to grow and can reach the size of a hen’s egg. Atheroma can be infected with development of pus abscess, that’s why its surgical removal should be performed as soon as possible.

At the LaserOne Clinic surgical removal of atheroma is performed under local anesthesia. The whole operation takes 15-20 minutes and consists of removal of formation together with the capsule. Special cosmetic suture is made on the skin.
